Local Events and Fiestas

Sol Y Luna 2010

The annual Beach party Sol Y Luna took its usual place on the calendar on the usual place, Playa Blanca, just outside Puerto Del Rosario.

Like last year, the Scottish bloke could only manage the Sol …butteries running low after 5 hours on the beach.

Spirit of Spain - Bar El Punto.

A great live flamenco show with horses. This is set in a fabulous position in the rural district of Lajares. The service and atmosphere was superb. To really capture the true “Spirit of Spain” this evenings entertainment is a must.

What a fantastic evening we had here.

Fuerte En Musica… 2009

It’s my third visit to what is an annual event on the island - although I cant help thinking that, at least some members of local government are trying to diminish its importance in the social calendar.

San Antonia De Padua 2009 - Los Lajares

All the towns and villages have a saint or so it seems a week of festivities culminating normally in the religious procession end up in the Chapel ….
So with this in mind and the publicity duly noted I headed for Lajares in the north of our adopted rock.
The posters said 1pm but it was no surprise to me when nothing appeared to be happening at that hour. Sure I did my usual promenade around the village, looking for clues but like the recent mini marathon discovered by half chance or the car rally not discovered at all; this particular event was proving elusive.

Lebrancho Rock Festival 2009

Last weekend saw the Lebrancho Rock Festival in Puerto del Rosario. This event hosted more than 20 bands from all over the Canaries who got the audience rocking and a rolling! Surfbum was with them and brought back these photos so you can ahre in the great atmosphere!

Corralejo Carnival 2009

The penultimate day of the Corralejo Carnaval is their parade which stretches half way from Tamaragua to the town centre.
A full spectrum of costumes and floats clogged (or should be graced?) the streets with colour and noise way past this Scottish guys bedtime.

Corralejo Carnival 2008

Well the carnival this year really went with a bang! The fireworks on the Sunday were stunning although a little scary as those of us on the sea front were sprayed with sea water and littered with debris!
