Restoration Efforts...

The Cabildo's environmental department led by Natalia Évora, have repaired the skeleton of a fin whale and returned it to the coast of Las Salinas del Carmen with a new scaffolding to support it.

In the past week, the completely preserved skeleton of the fin whale was restored. The 19.5-metre-long female animal, was found dead in April 2000 on the coast of Majanicho in La Oliva.  The skeleton of the decayed fin whale was prepared and used as an exhibit, serving as a reminder to the public of the biodiversity of the ocean surrounding the Canaries.  Other skeletons can be seen on the Isla de Lobos, in El Cotillo, in the Avenida of Puerto del Rosario, in Saladar de Jandía and in the Avenida de Gran Tarajal.
