Fishy business....

The National Federation of Fishermen's Associations (FNCP) has met with the Minister Isabel García Tejerina to analyze the quotas in the Northwest Bay of Biscay, bluefin tuna, swordfish and issues related to fishing regulation in the Canary Islands, among other matters.

Regarding the Ministry's order on fishing in the Canary Islands' outer waters, FNCP Vice-President Gabriel "Bielo" Jimenez recalled that it was approved in 2015 and that it establishes limitations on certain equipment, such as pots, which are not suitable for the fishing ground reality.

On the other hand, Jimenez has pointed out that Canarian longliners can only work "with 500 hooks", while there are peninsular vessels licensed to use "thousands of hooks" in the Canarian outer waters.
