Did you sell a property as a non-resident of Fuerteventura between 2004 and 2006? If so, you probably paid too much Capital Gains Tax set at 35%, instead of 18%!
The European Commission states that the overpayment contravenes European Community Treaty discrimination rules. ASG Interconsulting will advise whether you can reclaim the 17% overpayment and all EC citizens can apply for a refund. By law you also receive interest of 6% annually on the total amount from the original payment date until you receive your money from the Spanish authorities.
Act now, don´t wait as you must register your claim within 4 years of the property being sold and the tax paid, therefore a property sold prior to 2004 would not qualify for a refund. Due to the disruption caused by the transport strike in Spain and Portugal, the passport courier delivery service provided by Bpack for the British Consulate has been suspended. The British Consulate is monitoring the situation and will reinstate the service as soon as possible.
In the meantime, customers who have submitted a passport application can call the hotline on 91 524 9761 (Spain) between 10am and 2pm or 213924104 (Portugal) between 9am and 1pm.
If customers need to travel soon and cannot collect their passports personally in Madrid or in Lisbon, they may request to have them delivered by registered post. But this is at customers' own risk as the Spanish and Portuguese Postal Services are likely to be affected by the strike too.
