Come along to the quiz and raffle at Oasis Bar,Top Floor, Atlantico Centre, Corralejo Every Monday night - 9.30pm onwards or come in any night and buy a daffodil badge or donate a raffle prize! In September we had a special visitor to the island, Emma Groves works for Marie Curie Cancer Care and when we heard that she and her partner Scott needed sponsorship to run a marathon to raise funds, that we decided to support her and the charity. I had the privilege of handing her a cheque for £1000 - which is in addition to the 3,000e we have already sent over.
She brought with her a heap of new daffodil badges plus some goodies, such as bunnies with lavender bottoms - for our Monday raffles. Many thanks to her and to everyone who has supported us throughout this year. Many thanks to everyone who has helped in particular Buzz and Maureen who bring along those lovely plants and herbs to us every month. Bring and Buy 8th July
Buddy has officially been renamed Snoopy and was won by a lady called Diane. If you know, or are, the lady that chose that name for him, please come into the bar for your prize!. I have a suspicion that it was a holidaymaker, so we may see Snoopy/Buddy up for grabs again. It was a good bring and buy with lots of people walking off with bargains. Many thanks to all who brought and bought. This time a lady brought some home made preserves. Many thanks for the sweet chilli relish - it is yummy! We have now raised over 4,400e!!
Bring and Buy
Sale Thanks to everyone who came along on what was a scorching day and also happened to be one of the last days of the football season. In spite of the heat and the competition, we still managed to raise over 200 euros, which together with the money we have raised from all our events so far, brings the total to over 3,500 euros!! A lot of people brought in some great stuff for the sale, including these lovely handbags that almost got snatched up by a couple of suspicious looking customers in the bar!
The Sultanas came along and went home with a taxi full of stuff, after all that shopping they needed a rest!
Joey from Finnegan's turned up and wowed us with some lovely music
The evening continued with Kenny doing a swing set, probably because a certain Welsh pixie had pinched one of his Sadie's outfits!
Many thanks to all who contributed and helped out, especially Dave, Betty and Val.
CHARITY FUN DAY SUNDAY 15TH APRIL This is a huge THANK YOU to everyone who contributed, helped and came along and joined in with this day. In all we managed to raise 1,990.88 on the day itself. This means that together with the money that has come in from the Monday fun raffles and the "shrapnel" jar of loose coins we have reached a total of just over 3,000 euros!!!
There are still a few unclaimed prizes in the raffle. Please come along to the bar and see if one of them belongs to you.
A huge thank you to the following businesses and individuals for their contributions to this and the raffle.
Sorry if I have forgotten anyone in this list, the donations were coming in so thick and fast it was difficult to keep up! Also many thanks to the people who helped out on the day, Bill from Red Mountain estate agents, Eileen from Penny Lane, Dave and Betty, Anya from Whereabouts, Brian Smith and countless others who came along to support us. ------------------------------------------------- Many of us know someone who has suffered from Cancer. Indeed, many of our readers knew Jill Taylor who recently lost her long fight against this disease. In honour of Jill, to help people in similar circumstances, the Oasis Bar is raising funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Thanks also to Maxodrinks - my wines and beer supplier, who have contributed a case of Heineken for us to use in the raffles. If you have a bar or restaurant and are looking for a supplier with a heart, contact Steve on 666 524 606. Come along to the quiz and raffle at Oasis Bar,Top Floor, Atlantico Centre, Corralejo Every Monday night - 9.30pm onwards or come in any night and buy a daffodil badge. Breast Cancer site is having trouble getting enough people to
click on their site daily to meet their quota of donating at
least one free mammogram a day to an underprivileged woman. It
takes less than a minute to go to their site (see below link)
and click on "donating a mammogram" for free (pink window in the
middle). This doesn't cost you a thing. Their corporate
sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate
mammograms in exchange for advertising. Marie Curie Cancer Care is a charity with four main areas of action. NursingResearch has shown that 75 per cent of people seriously ill with cancer would like to be cared for at home. Every year, Marie Curie Nurses make that wish possible for thousands of cancer patients in cities, towns and villages across the UK. Marie Curie Nurses now care for around 50 per cent of all cancer patients who die at home. They work through the night or during the day to provide care for patients in the comfortable and familiar surroundings of their own home. Our nurses are also there for families and carers - providing practical and emotional support at what can be an exhausting time. Marie Curie Nursing is always free of charge to patients and carers. HospicesWith ten hospices across the UK, Marie Curie Cancer Care provides the largest number of hospice beds outside the NHS. The hospices offer specialist support in a relaxed, friendly and comfortable environment and no charge is ever made to patients or their families. Voluntary contributions, together with statutory government funding, are essential to continue providing these vital services. The Marie Curie Research Institute
Much of the work carried out relates to the fundamental mechanisms governing proper cell division and organisation and how damage to genes which have important roles in ordinary cells can cause a cell to become cancerous. Palliative Care ResearchThe Marie Curie Palliative Care Research and Development Unit seeks to improve care for those affected by life-limiting illnesses through encouraging and carrying out research into a broad spectrum of issues relating to palliative care. Its work includes investigations into a wide range of subjects and issues, including aromatherapy massage, constipation in cancer patients and communication skills for healthcare professionals. |
