ISLAND CREATIONS Island Creations is a new company specialising in digital art here on the island. What is digital art I hear you ask? Well it does what is says on the can! Artwork or photos are rendered digitally and then can be reproduced on a wide variety of items or surfaces. The result is a very high quality image which you can then use how you want to. Probably the most common way of using these images is in pictures themselves. Here the image is put onto an artist quality canvas and then treated so that the picture is light resistant and easy to clean. This is very valuable on an island where dust and sunlight can be very destructive. The canvases can be stretched onto a wooden frame so that the image stands out from the wall, or you can have a more conventional flat canvas for putting in a frame.
As you can see above, images can be split to form a very eye catching triptych - set of three. The company has the copyright on many stunning images that you can choose from. Or you can use an image of your own. This means hat you can transform a favourite photo of a landscape or loved one into a real piece of art. As the light resistant treatment has a life span of at least 75 years you won't have to worry about your wedding or christening fading into the long distant past as the colours will stay vibrant for a lifetime. The colours of images can also be changed to match your surroundings. These pictures will be equally at home in a house or an office.
Island Creations is the brainchild of Russell and Nicci. They worked in England managing boutique hotels and the business started from a need to provide the rooms with unique and attractive wall hangings. Russell is a keen surfer (if the waves are over 6ft, Nicci works on her own!) and they had been to the island for many holidays before they came to live here. No one else on the island was doing any digital image work along these lines so they decided to develop the business. In addition to pictures you can hang on a wall, the company also produces fabrics and household items such as curtains, bedspreads and cushions. One excellent idea - especially for our windy island - is a doorstop in the form of a decorative bag that you can move easily into place.
Although all the products are very high quality, you will be pleasantly surprised by the prices - this is affordable art! A 12" x 16" picture will only set you back 45e, an ideal figure for a present for someone - gift vouchers are also available.
