Nervous Traveller………….A trip to Texas # 2
So dear reader, a week on and still here and surviving. I have
been on the road quite a bit, pictures to follow but it
certainly is one big country, and yes the travel appetite has
been whetted, although I feel confident our editor will accept
articles from wherever …you will won’t you? Huh??
The camera shopping was very successful, in fact just as well
sister was with me as I could have happily maxed out the
plastic in one easy swipe. And yes, Cannon have a new EOS in
the market place…
The visit to my nieces was a great success, and the eldest, now
23 summers on the planet indicated it has been 13 years since
she last saw Uncle Hedgehog as she calls me, (something to do
with the haircut) ….will it be another 13? Hell no! We have a
plan afoot to get all the “kids” that is five cousins, two in
England, two here in the States, and one in British Columbia,
together in my native Scotland next May if at all possible, my
eldest sister in Canada has been emailed accordingly. ….Your
challenge should you wish to accept it….
The estate (if we can call it that) where sister and her
husband live has quite a bit of ground allocated to each house,
evidently a ruling made when the buildings first went up.
Accordingly the wildlife, especially the birdlife, prospers. I
just wish I had my long lens with me.
Note to self; don’t leave home without 600mm of telephoto fun.
The most colourful creature thus far has got to be the
Cardinal, a bright red, what I would call exotic species. But
there are Blue Jays, which are, yes Blue, and Mocking Birds
which imitate all manner of sounds, even alarm clocks…!
And last night, as brother in law and I sat outside cooling
down after a day of intense humidity, a procession of toads
hopped past …all dressed up and seemingly no-where to go! Toad
Hall perhaps?
If anyone is interested, the humidity is an issue, for me at
least, and very different heat from Fuerteventura. Of course as
the week progresses the heat builds, thus forecasters are
predicting further electrical torment, with the district still
recovering from last week’s climatic adversity, as one local
press offering put it, One Hail of A Storm… !
Tonight I am going to Sanity, a group of friends whom meet
every Wednesday just to shoot the breeze, last week I was the
only male member, so tonight who knows?? But one tip dear
reader, if you ever happen across a Starbucks in the U.S Of A,
don’t ask for a large coffee…I did and was presented with
something approaching a litre of the stuff. Yup, everything is
bigger in Texas!
The final Nervous Traveller is coming your way next week. Only
one question remains, where to next?
Polite answers only please….
