NEED

Pregunta: Surf Bum, what part of the great life journey are you embarking on now, the new start to the new start?

Respuesta: As a better person.

A friend is trying to get a multi national group together with a view to greater community integration, maybe we can we can pick up a few more Spanish words and teach the locals a little English along the way, or whatever idiom is in the air, and why not?

This was on my mind the other night when I was in Puerto waiting for the 10.00pm bus to Caleta (which like the 2.00pm Cotillo to Corralejo does not exist)

A young Moroccan family, well I guess that’s where their origins lay, were similarly waiting. S’pose I only noticed them as their youngster was making rather a lot of noise. The man of the family appeared little more than a teenager yet, as he played with his toddler, he carried himself with a grace that I could learn from.

Then there is the Indian shop near the bus stop where a young girl in her full traditional dress always has a smile for me when I buy my bono de guagua from her. Does she ever look at the colour of my skin?

I need to be a better person. Need to.

Fishing out my mobile, I thumbed the favourites button, NEED was at the top of the list, the number rang three times before a robotic voice spoke…
