One last call for alcohol…………………
Well that didn’t last long did it?? Open 22 November 2007
closed 20 January 2008 because the sums simply didn’t add up. I
can actually hear the “I told you so” brigade heckling from the
cheap seats. No dear reader, there isn’t much money around in
Cotillo at the mo, and I have ceased being a village sponsor.
But may I say how difficult it has been to work in the
community, particularly as I tried and continue to try, to
integrate….although in fairness the pub customers were not the
problem. That side of the work I really enjoyed, and think I
had limited success.
But consider, trailing around Puerto del Rosario, looking for
various government buildings, in an effort to become legal,
asking for directions you are told to go in entirely the wrong
direction, well that was funny wasn’t it? On arrival in the
“wrong” building, further told to go to another building which
is yellow, or near the bakers…..or simply met by a rolling of
the eyes.
Such a crime being an extranjero, but worse someone who has the
temerity to attempt the local language.
OK not everyone was like that …but clearly I’m doing something
wrong. Especially when a rep from a beer company says he
doesn’t understand the question as he is Spanish……I was asking
in Spanish!
Time to try something else I think. Suggestions anyone?

But at least winter is over and summer has returned…did it ever
leave? Sunbathing on Christmas day was a novel experience but
now I have contracted the flu / a sore throat/ runny nose ….oh
joy. At least my current health is seasonal; if I were in the
U.K it wouldn’t be out of place at all, would it?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And so finally my sweet supplicants, I have to confess to a
spot of being unfaithful, in a football sense.

As U.D.F were on there travels I went to see Jandia at home vs
San Isidro, well I think that’s what the teams are called. The
travel was an adventure in itself as my friend and I went to
two other grounds before finding the correct one, and of course
missing the kick off. One thing the outfit playing just outside
La Pared can boast to have more of than UDF…and that is Civil
Guard. The ground was hoaching (Scottish term) with the olive
green peacekeepers, why so many? All I ever see at Los Pozos
are the local boys in blue.
I must say it is the first time I have ever spoken to Civil
Guard and found them very polite as they arrested me………..
Next weeks offering will come from behind the bars of
justice…and my crime? A gringo who tries tooooooo hard.
See you in a sunbeam.
