The beach has been quiet recently, at least in terms of the surfing fraternity, the lack of wind the responsible rascal. So it was with interest the other day that I noticed the sky over Piedra Playa populated with another form of kites….these guys are actually flying a motorised version, one wonders do they need a licence? And what if they run out of gas? I thought it interesting that they seemed to be in contact with the ground by radio, and I was going to attempt conversation with base camp, but I suspect it was Italian run….and bless ‘em they are lovely but no speaka da eeengleeesh….I know, I know some Italian instruction required…

Quite what was so attractive about the Cotillo sky on this particular Saturday, remains a mystery. I was beginning to think the airport was closed as there were other forms of airborne amusement on display…. one appeared to be a tricycle with wings…and a very small (very small) plane..

(This one was actually a gyrocopter piloted by 2 men from the Spanish airforce on a charity flight over the whole of Spain. Ed)

In fact the beach has had its fair share of visual diversity recently, along with the usual assortment of flesh on display I noticed a pooch which had climbed atop its owners car roof, clearly to get a better view of proceedings!

And finally, still very much on the theme of imagery, do any of you remember the animation character Morf, and his creator Tony Hart? Well it might just interest you to know that the former is alive, well and living in El Cotillo. I spotted him on the beach the other day.

Someone recently suggested to me that if it wasn’t for people getting homesick….(homesick? what’s that?/) everyone would ultimately arrive in Cotillo, tilting the earth on it’s axis….and then where will we go? Even closer to the sun?

Interesting idea, and something for grumpy to groan about!

Watch out for the autumnal sunburn, talk again soon.
