Behind The Bar

Despite suggesting, some weeks ago, that the ultimate plan was to get off the rock, it looks like I may be around for a while, having acquired an interest in a Cotillo bar which who knows? Might even be a success.

A two-year rental deal which, if nothing else, is an interesting challenge in many ways. It’s a sharp learning curve and I’m careering upward! Whether in Spanish language, people skills, or simply the important financial considerations.

Made all the more perverse by the fact that this guy is retired!! Never mind the fact that I happen to be T-Total. Wonder if my downfall will be when the usual question is asked of a particular drink, “What’s this like?” or “What do you recommend?”

Certainly I have attracted some strange looks when imparting the info of my abstinence ……oh well…moving on.
This means of course that the beach life has been largely neglected recently and indeed with a bit of a chill in the air over the last few days not sure if I have missed a great deal.

But then becoming accustomed to the Fuerte weather is making this Scot rather soft. I still managed to have a siesta on the sand one late afternoon in the last week so clearly December isn’t really December, is it? And the incongruous sight of Christmas trees in shop windows as we still wander around in shorts and sandals, well at least some of the time!

U.D.Fuerteventura appear to like my football pics am on the front page of their Marea Verde publication, and bless ‘em they let me in for nothing, but as a true supporter would I really grudge the euros? And although they suffered a first home defeat of the season it was against Real Madrid B so perhaps some solace can be salvaged.

And I now appear to be on the emailing list for the local Ayuntamiento sports department whom have recently been sending out basketball tournament info. Quite how that happened is anyone’s guess but I can only assume that like the pub when dealing with the locals something still gets lost in the translation!

Oh and finally, does anyone want a young female cat? It came with the pub, has been neutered and vaccinated by the previous tenant who is happy to take her but she seems determined to stay in the Last Resort. She really is a sweetie but for a bachelor like me, not the most practical company, and my suggestion of putting her to sleep, is quite simply met with horror filled expressions.

From the point of view of keeping away any vermin she is an obvious asset but when I open up to the odd broken glass or knocked over ashtray which presumably she has disturbed…. there are dangers to consider. So if you know of anyone?

Talk again soon.
