The Bird man of El Cotillo

Kite surfing - another form of madness?

Beach Life – A Daily Theatre.

A few days ago, after another hard shift with the cameras (hard? I hear you say) I was heading back to my apartment when I stopped atop the cliff that overlooks the surf beach at El Cotillo. The scene stretched out before me was a rich theatre of life with many different cameo roles being played by individuals or groups as they enjoyed their varied and separate pursuits under the sun.

From the punishing action of the surfers, to the warmth of smiling friends out for a stroll, everyone contributes to this epic, yet daily production, and accomplished thespians all.

Then of course there are the many beach conversations, well what would a play be without dialogue? For this is no mime, although my Italian friends like to wave their arms around!

I have experienced a few difficult communication exchanges, owing mainly to my poor command of language. Yes, I have a little French from my working days with Eurotunnel colleagues; a few German sentences have been mastered, if only to be polite to our Teutonic friends, and as far as Spanish is concerned, improvement is on its way.

But then, mine is only a walk on role, in this beach life, this daily theatre.

Don’t forget the factor factor!
