La Tasca
Grill, Pizzeria and Restaurant

I´m sure a lot of readers have visited this restaurant as it is one of the first restaurants you will pass on the main drag into the centre of Corralejo located beneath The Stables bar. In fact, ever since it opened (probably more than a couple of years ago) it has been consistently busy and very popular with tourists – couples and families alike.

I now visit here every time my friend Jenny and her family come here on holiday as it is near to their hotel and they offer such a wide range of dishes that everyone is happy whether it be with a paella, pizza, pasta, grilled meat or salad.

On this occasion, I arranged to meet Jenny there and they managed to get the last table available which was in between the outside terrace and the interior. It was a very balmy evening and we were unfortunately unable to benefit from whatever breeze there was or the ceiling fans inside – but it did not detract from the enjoyment of our evening.

The restaurant is decorated with dark wood throughout with red and white check tablecloths. ……. And the loos just have to be visited – multicoloured tiles and very trendy sinks.

Every time I have visited there, I have always been extremely impressed with the efficiency and speed of the service no matter how busy the restaurant is. There has never been a delay with our food.

As is Jenny´s wont, she enquired as to what cava was available and after being told there was only semi seco she opted for a bottle of Moet & Chandon instead (just as I was arriving). I exclaimed as to her extravagance and her excuse was that it was her last night in Corralejo – so I just had to go along with her – ho hum. The girls opted for their usual garlic bread, melon (without the Serrano ham) and spaghetti Bolognese. I chose the prawn cocktail with Hawaiian sauce (which has always been excellent) and Jen had the scrambled eggs with prawns and salmon (a very hearty starter). We also ordered the Paella Valenciana for two. The last time Jen had this, with other friends, she brought a “para llevar” back to the bar for me and it was one of the best paellas I have eaten since I´ve been here (and I´ve had a few paellas, I can tell you!). Even the take away version, as well as the restaurant one, had the most enormous langostines adorning the top for decoration (as well as consumption!).

The vast amount of food available includes hot and cold starters, salads, soups, omelettes and rice dishes, 14 pizzas, fish and seafood, meat from the barbeque such as lamb ribs or a La Tasca kebab (which is excellent). Other meat dishes include Veal Escalope Milanesa or La Tasca specialities such as Ossobuco with Tallarines, Fried Kid or Chicken Breast with Peppers. You can also order in advance oven roasted Suckling Pig, Leg of Lamb or Kid. There are also pasta dishes with sauces such as Crudailoa (fresh tomato and basil with Fuerteventura cheese), Giovanello (anchovies, capers, garlic, tomato and peppers) or Frutti di Mare (mussels, prawns, squid and crab).

Although there is such a host of choices, I still consider the restaurant to be more meat orientated than anything else.

I have never been able to fit in a dessert but they include cream caramel, chocolate mousse (can´t believe I missed this one before!), strawberries and cream, banana split, homemade cheesecake (which looked lovely when I saw a waiter taking two out to a customer the other night), tropical pineapple and mixed ice-cream.

The restaurant continues to be very popular with holiday makers as well as local English and Spanish and has never disappointed either myself or any of my dining companions.
