THE FOUR MUSKETEERS

Since the Roadhouse moved to the harbour of Corralejo, the area around the dunes end of Avenida Grandes Playas has been a bit of a desert if you are in need of some refreshment. However, now you can rest your weary bones in the Four Musketeers.

This cafe is located on Avenida Grandes Playas just before you get to the Bahia Real 5 star hotel, and it is the first and last watering hole if you're heading to and from the dunes. There's a sign on the beach path which will lead you straight to it.

The Avenida is a quiet street that has a number of mature gardens around which give this location a real tropical feel. The terrace at the front of the cafe is sheltered from the sea winds and is a real sun trap.

The cafe is run by Jacqui, Roger, Dean, Jacqui's son, and Laura, his girlfriend. They all work hard to give you a friendly welcome. Jacqui first came to Fuerteventura in 1998 and previously ran a restaurant in Caleta. After a brief return to the UK where she ran a pub, the call to return was too strong for her to resist. When searching for a locale, they all fell in love with this place at first sight, which used to be a Spanish snack bar.

The menu is varied, with full English breakfasts; burgers, sandwiches; steaks and a number of home cooked specials such as lasagne. I tried the chilli burger which was served with chips and a side salad and was tasty and well cooked.

Whilst this would normally have been sufficient for me, I was starving that day, so followed this with chicken goujons. This came with a choice of sauces, I went for chilli - again - and garlic. This was yummy and great value for money at under 4 euros.

The people on the next table were king enough to let me photograph their food, and they had opted for a tuna mayonnaise bocadillo - roll.

Again the portion sizes were good and it was nice to see a substantial amount of filling.

All in all this is a great little pit stop and well worth seeking out. I will certainly be going back for more!

The Four Musketeers is open from 10.30am until late. For more information call 600 383 241
