EL
JARDIN
El Jardin is an example of what
Fuerteventura does best, a friendly, out of the way restaurant with
delicious food. Just the place to while away a sunny winter's
afternoon. It is located in Triquivijate, off the main road (if you
can call it that) and is surrounded by beautiful gardens with the
sea sparkling in the distance.
The
restaurant is owned and run by a lovely couple, Javier, who does all
the cooking and Lisa, a Dutch lady who serves you with a smile. As
we had Sally (of Vina Sal fame) we ordered a number of bottles of
Vina Sol.
The
menu is written out on parchment and is available in English as well
as Spanish. There is also a specials board. As it was coming up to
Christmas and they were going to close for a holiday, not all the
dishes were available, but there was still more than enough choice
to satisfy us. There are a large number of starters, and we could
have just had those and still been happy.

Especially nice were the
devils on horseback and the deep fried camembert with blackberry
jam. We also sampled the stuffed piquillo peppers which were served
with a creamy tomato sauce.
A
lot of the main courses are barbequed outside by Javier. These
included steaks and, spare ribs and kebabs, the portion sizes of
which were more than enough for even the hungriest diners.
There
was also local rabbit cooked in sauce and my favourite, beef slowly
cooked in butter, a recipe of Lisa's mother which was extremely rich
and probably doubled my cholesterol levels.
Prices
are reasonable considering the quality of the food, but don't go if
you're on a budget. Starters are around 6-8 euros and main courses
around 12 euros.
We didn't have enough room for
dessert, but ended the meal with coffee and liqueurs, a perfect end
to a lovely afternoon. Then it was all back to Brian's house for a
well earned nap!

El Jardin is not open on Mondays
and Tuesdays, booking is recommended on 680 88 72 26.
