Elisir

Elisir is a smart new cafe style restaurant located next to La Nit on Calle Galicia, the port road. It is tastefully decorated in orange, black and white and (perhaps too) brightly lit. I heartily approved of the choice of music though, a mix of jazz and blues. I ordered a drink to sip while I checked out the menu and when it arrived, I thought I had maybe had one too many already!

The menu is very interesting with lactose free dishes and a wide range of vegetarian options. It is not laid out in the traditional starters, mains and desserts though, which perhaps reflects the owners philosophy of being a little different. This also showed in some original dishes such as cecina, a beef ham from Leon, a spinach puff pastry with cherry salsa, and carrot cake suitable for diabetics. More traditional Italian dishes also make an appearance for the less adventurous.

I was eating with my sister, a vegetarian, my nephew - gimme pasta - and my brother in law, who love experimenting, so this suited us down to the ground.

After we had placed out order, a generous plate of tapas arrived, which included meat and veggie options.

My sister had the grilled smoked cheese, which arrived with tasters of various vegetables dishes. It was attractive, a good portion and very tasty.

Matthew, my nephew went for the Spaghetti Bolognaise, which was a very generous portion and nicely flavoured.

I opted for the king prawns cooked in rum, with a guacamole and mint salsa. When it arrived, the prawns were impressive, but they had run out of the salsa. I wish they had told me when I ordered and then they would have controlled my expectations. However, the prawns were delicious!

My brother in law had the roasted pork with fresh fried rosemary potatoes. Again a good portion and nicely presented.

Although I was quite full from the tapas and the giant prawns, I always have to try the tiramisu! Unusually this didn't have a strong flavour of coffee, it was more like a cappuccino tiramisu, but very rich.

Overall, I was a little disappointed that they didn't have everything on the menu available, but it is an ambitious one. Certainly if I have vegetarian friends with me I will take them here and I have to go back to try the mint guacamole!

Prices are in the mid range, around 10-15e for a main course, which may be a little high for this end of town.

Elisir is open all day and does breakfasts and snacks, including some very interesting rolls.

You can contact Elisir on 671 959 414 or 647 200 109. Their address is Calle Galicia 8, Corralejo. They are open every day from 7.30am until 11pm
