LOS JAMEOS DEL AGUA

Seriously but I must admit it just happened as we were visiting Lanzorate to meet up with Andy’s Uncle Michael and Aunty Lyn who were docking into Arrecife on a cruise ship.
A cruise ship did I say, it was huge and standing next to it you panic a bit and wonder how the bloody hell does it float especially with all those humans eating six meals a day!!

It was great to see them, we all then piled into my jeep which I must add is not the easiest of vehicles to climb in, as any who has visited us will tell you as Andy usually has to give a little shove in the rear posture to help.
We drive to the North of Lanzarote in a place called “El Malpais de la Corona” in which there are volcanic galleries and caverns with exceptional characteristics.

The main nucleus of this system, situated in the village of Haria is formed by spectacular subterranean volcanic tube, created by the solidification of the lava expelled from the “Volcano De La Corona” in a process that probably started three thousand years ago. In this place, born from the violent acts of nature, it was decided to prepare these most interesting places of its art and culture under the supervision of the genial artist Cesar Manrique.
The word” Jameo” probably comes from the antique old language and it refers to a cavity produced when the roof of a volcanic cave collapses. The “Jameos” were formed in several areas of this part of Lanzorate when the tops of the volcano caverns fell in, in a natural process, which gave the place its present appearance.
When you visit this place and you descend to it’s inner part by sinuous stairs made of stone, as you enter you are overwhelmed by this amazing atmosphere, a feeling of calmness and serenity which made you feel part of the place. The vegetation and music fit this natural scenery as well as being enhanced by the relaxed atmosphere in the restaurant and bars.
The spectacular”Tunel de la Atlantida” begins. The underwater tunnel runs along the inner part of the Atlantic Ocean and in which many submarine explorers have discovered different forms of marine life.
As we continued we encounter the subterranean lake which is salty but so clear and which offers us the opportunity of seeing a spectacular and extensive range of colours when the sunlight goes through the orifice opened in the roofs cavern, caused by the explosion of gases in there process of formation.
I will admit I found it quite awesome walking along side the underground lake as the water was crystal clear and looked drinkable. I felt I was drawn in so Andy had to take my arm; it was like the feeling of being to high or a long way away, just amazing. Also as you walk alongside the lake on a path made of very uneven rock you could see the tiny blind white crabs whose natural habitat belongs to a much deeper sea.
On our way and Mike and Lyn are really awed at this amazing place we hardly spoke, that being quite a feat for me but my little finger was snapping the pictures.
A real must to visit and I must take the Brother when he comes again and maybe they might have a concert there as in the other side of the “Jameos” beyond the swimming pool (Andy did not build) there is an auditorium which is also a volcanic cave where 600 people can enjoy its natural acoustics attending ballets and plays.

After we left this incredible place we the found on our travels “Mirador De La Rio”
Now this was like a feeling of being in outer space looking down on the world, just the outline of land and the sea giving the impression of a blue pencil line being drawn.

Then the most amazing rainbow appeared in the sky joining the island of Graciosa to Lanzarote and all the tourists in all their languages were exclaiming their delight at such a freak of nature.

Being in the right place at the right time especially for Michael and Lyn, something to remember on their trip to visit us from the U.K.

Now back into the Jeep and take our visitors back to their luxury cruise and us back to Playa Blanca to catch the Ferry to Fuerteventura and Home!.
Lovely Day and Thank you Michael and Lyn for coming to see us.

WHAT ELSE AM I DOING??
We were suppose to go to Sue and Trevors for Sunday lunch and have a Jacuzzi and maybe a little Karaoke but alas it RAINED AND RAINED AND RAINED and did not stop for two days and being lunch here is always outside they cancelled so beans on toast while watching T.V. and listening to the rain, even Toby had to be carried out to do his business.
Remember he only sees rain a few times a year so feet wet NO, so he digs his heels in literally. Oh well sun again by Tuesday.

However I did manage to get Jean in the spa at least once on her holiday. Ha Ha Jean, you dared me to show you around the world! Will you invite me to dinner again? WHAT DO YOU THINK BEN &ABBIXX

Regards to all
