The New A Team!
On the 7th January this year, Bill and
Cathy Meacham (pictured below in blissful ignorance of what the
new year was to have in store for them) returned home to
find that their apartment has been devastated by a fire.

Although the structure was intact, all
their belongings and appliances, the wiring, walls and ceilings
were ruined. As you can see from the pictures below this was a
heart breaking sight to return to.

Even the remains of their supper didn't
escape!

What wasn't actually destroyed was singed
and coved in soot from the smoke, including their Xmas tree.

Their landlord wasn't in an hurry to help
and Bill and Cathy were facing the prospect of having to leave
the island which has been a happy home for them for many years.
And then came the knock at the door - a
group of neighbours, both Spanish and expats - had clubbed
together and had raised enough money for them to replace most
of the items they had lost.
But the generosity didn't stop there, the
neighbours then proceeded to repair their home. All the damaged
wiring was replaced, shelves and doors repaired and the whole
apartment was given a new coat of paint. All the soot covered
items, including their clothes, were whisked away to be
repaired and washed.
In just eight days, Bill and Cathy moved
back into their home and the band of neighbours have now been
awarded the title of the New A team of Tindaya.
As a thank you, Bill and Cathy are having
a party to thank all these kind people and would be happy for
anyone to come along and join them. If you are not one of the A
team, please bring a bottle of something to share! The party
will be on Sunday 2nd March from 4pm at 39B Los Reyes in
Tindaya. If you need directions, give Bill a ring on 928 865
686.
In close communities, especially those
isolated on islands, it is all too easy to get into the
destructiveness of gossiping which just separates us even more
- it is so lovely to hear about a community coming together to
help each other.
Well done the New A team of Tindaya -
enjoy Sunday, you deserve it and thank you for giving probably
everyone who reads this a warm feeling and no doubt a little
tear to their eyes! |
